Some DJs fall into music. Lance Beadle was destined for it.

His journey behind the decks began at just 14 years old, spinning records and discovering the power of music to move a room. By 15, Lance had already locked onto the sound that would shape his musical life — Jazz Funk and Soul, the rich, groove-driven heartbeat of the dancefloor.

At 18, a defining moment arrived when he went to see the legendary James Brown live for the first time. The raw energy of the Godfather of Soul left a lasting impression and cemented Lance’s lifelong passion for the music of rhythm, funk and feeling.

By 21, Lance was already behind the microphone, presenting a show called Soul Sundae on Hospital Radio, learning the craft of broadcasting and developing the ear for great records that listeners appreciate to this day.

At 26, his DJ career moved into the nightclub scene, where he became part of the live entertainment circuit. Cabaret legends such as Mike Reid, Bradley Walsh and Brian Conley were regular turns on the bill.

Along the way, Lance also had the honour of supporting major soul artists including Alexander O'Neal and the respected UK soul vocalist Harry Cambridge — experiences that only deepened his connection to the music he loves.

When the world paused during the COVID years, Lance did what true music lovers do — he adapted. Turning to podcasting, he continued sharing the music that matters. That move soon opened the door to the expanding world of online broadcasting, eventually bringing him to Love Soul Radio London.

Today, Lance hosts “The Funktion”, heard every Tuesday at 10AM. The show is exactly what the name promises — a groove-packed journey through classic soul, jazz-funk, disco favourites and quality new releases, all selected with the ear of someone who has lived and breathed the music for decades.
