Who is Terry Peters - DJ Profile
Terry Peters
From Pirate Airwaves to Love Soul Radio London — A Lifetime in Black Music Broadcasting
Some DJs play records. Some presenters host radio shows. But every so often you come across somebody who is radio — somebody whose entire life has been stitched together through sound systems, pirate aerials, dubplates, studio lights, stacks of vinyl and decades of musical passion. Terry Peters is one of those people.

Long before streaming, algorithms and social media playlists, Terry was learning the craft the real way — through London’s legendary sound system and pirate radio culture. His journey began back in 1975, immersed in reggae, soul and black music at street level, before eventually turning professional in 1986 running his own sound system and steadily building a respected reputation across the capital.
Like many great broadcasters of his era, Terry earned his stripes on the pirate circuit, rising through the ranks on iconic stations including LWR, TKO and several others that helped shape the sound of black British radio throughout the 1980s.
Then came the moment that would cement his place in UK broadcasting history.
In March 1990, Terry was selected to host the very first live show on Choice FM 96.9 — London’s first legal black music station. It was a groundbreaking moment not just for Terry, but for British broadcasting itself. What had once existed in tower blocks, bedrooms and hidden transmitters was finally being given a legal platform.
Terry remained at Choice FM until 2003, becoming one of the station’s trusted and recognisable voices during its golden years. Along the way he interviewed some of the biggest names in soul and funk history including Isaac Hayes, Roy Ayers and Bobby Womack — conversations that many DJs could only dream of having.

But Terry’s love of music and broadcasting has never been about celebrity or ego. It’s always been about connection, culture and quality.

A serious collector with a vast archive of reggae 45s, Terry remains a devoted fan of the classic Trojan Records sound. His deep knowledge of reggae music runs through every show he presents, blending authenticity with warmth and effortless delivery.

And while many broadcasters from that era slowed down, Terry simply evolved.
He later stepped into television, co-presenting on QVC on Sky, showcasing DJ equipment and dance music releases before continuing his journey across numerous internet radio stations.
Today, Terry can be heard three times a week on Love Soul Radio London — and the passion is still unmistakable.
